Como sits at the southern end of the western branch of Lake Como in northern Italy. It's the most important town on the lake, with a long history, lively streets and a busy waterfront. Como is half an hour from Milan a few miles from Italy's border with Switzerland. At first glance, Como looks very urban compared with the smaller and prettier Lake Como resorts. But the town's setting - surrounded by green hills, with the end of the lake opening up as a pretty villa-rimmed basin just yards from the historic centre - is impressive and once you set foot within the square formed by the old town walls.
Bellagio, the pearl of Lake Como, is a top Italian lakeside vacation destination and one of the top romantic places to go in Italy. Set in an ideal position where the two legs of Lake Como come together, It has panoramic lake views and a fairly mild climate. The village has picturesque stone lanes and stairways with shops, gelato bars, cafes, and restaurants. Bellagio sits on a promontory near the center of Lake Como, about 30 kilometers northeast of the town of Como. The lake is north of the city of Milan and near the Swiss border.
